Increased demand on Finland as a destination and constant renewal of distribution and ecommerce models challenges the policies and practices of current marketing and incoming sales operations. The case sample is Finnish Lakeland area but same challenges and opportunities touch the whole Finnish travel industry. The aim of the workshop and following project is to develop Lakeland destination Digital itinerary, distribution channels and operative models capable to meet agile commercial trade network and empower the growth, operational effectiveness and quality of product development for global sales channels. The outcome should serve as a core service for both a) destination level growth and b) in-destination local commercial development. Main activities of development involve digital itinerary, distribution channel, data interface and localized frontend development - guided by the commercial feasibility. Development will participate the wide network of service providers and be led by key players of destination Lakeland.

Arctic Europe and Lapland are attracting millions of tourists yearly and increasingly foreign individual travelers. Accessibility is a major bottleneck for developing travel industry, leveraging the opportunities offered by Arctic Europe and providing seamless travel experience especially for foreign individual travelers. The idea of the workshop is to work in small groups on concrete development needs and ideas to improve accessibility and service provision respectively. Finavia is building a roadmap and platform for seamless travel experience through Finavia’s airports in terms of using single token as identifier at each step of the passenger’s journey from home to destination and back to home. This token should preferably be one’s own face which is conveniently always with you, when identifying oneself is required. Since the development work is in early stages, Finavia is looking ideas, synergies and opportunities on utilizing this identifier to its full extent safely but with added value for all stakeholders.
